Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to the website of 23d  International Workshop on Statistical Modelling (IWSM). The IWSM has a long history: it started in 1986 as a small gathering of people interested in generalized linear models and the GLIM package. It has grown into a full conference, drawing some 150 to 200 participants each year. A spin-off is the Statistical Modelling Society, which publishes the successful journal Statistical Modelling (see www.statmod.org) .

The Workshop follows some simple rules, which have proved very effective:

  • Focus on new developments in statistical modeling, in any discipline, but based on real data.
  • No parallel sessions. If you present at the Workshop, you can expect a large audience. Interaction between disciplines is stimulated.
  • A “poster reception”. Posters get first-rate attention. On Tuesday afternoon a long session is reserved for visiting and discussing the posters. Free drinks and snacks stimulate a pleasant atmosphere.
  • Proceedings are ready when the Workshop starts. All presenters, whether oral or by poster, are obliged to write a 4 to 6 page abstract.
  • First-class invited speakers.
  • A one-day pre-conference course on a current statistical subject.
  • A welcome reception on Monday, and a half-day excursion on Wednesday.
  • A cozy conference diner on Thursday.

An attractive conference deserves an attractive venue. It will take place in a very recently constructed building at the Uithof campus of Utrecht University. Utrecht is an old city in the center of The Netherlands, offering a you a very pleasant stay and excellent connections to other places of interest.

On behalf of the Scientific Committee and the Local Organizing Committee I cordially invite you to attend the 23d International Workshop on Statistical Modelling in Utrecht. Look around at this website.

If you consider to submit an abstract for an oral presentation or a poster, please note the deadline: February 10, 2008.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Eilers (chair, Scientific Committee)
