Philanthropic Studies at VU University Amsterdam
Based at the Faculty of Social Sciences of VU University Amsterdam, the Department of Philanthropic Studies is the leading research institute in the field in Europe. The group is headed by Professor Theo Schuyt. Since 1995, the group publishes the biannual ‘Giving in the Netherlands’ volume, describing the size and composition of the philanthropic sector in the Netherlands. Since 2001, the institute is embedded in the interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Philanthropy, a joint venture between the faculty of Social Sciences, the faculty of Economics and Business Administration, and the faculty of Law at VU University Amsterdam. The institute offers a post academic program in philanthropic studies since 2001. Since 2008, also an undergraduate program is offered to bachelor students.
